Community Choice Credit Union (CCCU) and MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center share a robust history together.
Des Moines Mercy Hospital Employees Credit Union – originally formed in 1968 – was founded by Sister Mary Eileen, RSN, who was a Sister of Mercy and also a visionary for the credit union and pioneered its existence. The Des Moines Mercy Credit Union was originally established to meet the needs of Mercy employees and their families through the motto of “People Before Profits.” In 2006, Des Moines Mercy Credit Union joined with Community Choice Credit Union and still functions in the capacity of meeting the financial needs of many MercyOne employees and their families (nearly 1,800 MercyOne employees are CCCU members).
In April 2016, CCCU generously pledged $25,000 to MercyOne Des Moines Foundation’s Employee Relief Fund and in 2018 pledged $50,000 to the Remarkable Mercy Experience Fund, which was established specifically to provide resources for nurses who spent their personal funds on items for patients (hair brushes, batteries, puzzles, soft drinks, reading glasses, etc.) and also to purchase an electronic nurse rounding tool.
